AI in financial services: less document work, more time for advice
For bookkeeping firms, accountants, financial advisors and investment and financing advisors. AI extracts data from invoices and documents, prepares client files, runs through your own checklists and writes a first draft of reports. The advisor reviews and decides. Data stays in the EU.

01 / What it is
What does AI do in financial services?
In financial services, AI takes over the document work: extracting data from invoices and receipts, organizing client documents, completing client files, running through checklists and writing a first draft of reports and explanatory notes. The advisor or accountant reviews, decides and signs. AI delivers groundwork, not judgement.
That distinction matters even more in this sector. You work with confidential data, under supervision and with rules that differ per profession. That's why we don't build anything that decides on its own about a client, a loan or a piece of advice. We do build everything that makes the work leading up to it faster.
And there's a lot there. At a financial advisory firm, document processing became 40 percent faster, and the automated compliance checks reach 95 percent accuracy, with an advisor who reviews. At another client, invoice processing alone saves 12 hours a week.
01Invoices and receipts
Extracted, matched and ready to book. Deviations set apart.
02Documents and client files
Client documents organized and summarized, with what's still missing.
03Checklists and compliance
Every client file against your own control points. The advisor reviews.
04Reports
A first draft of the explanatory notes or report. The professional finishes it.
02 / Sound familiar?
The office in the busy weeks.
Everyone in financial services knows the peak. And during that peak, most of the time doesn't go to advice, but to paperwork.
The shoebox
“Receipts, invoices and statements in one email with thirty attachments. Or actually in a box.”
The wrong one again
“The client sends the statement for the wrong quarter. For the third time.”
The client file
“Before every client meeting, we spend half a day gathering the documents.”
The checklist
“Forty control points, every file all over again. After the thirtieth file, you're no longer reading as sharply.”
The pitch deck
“Reading sixty slides to decide whether it fits. And then finding an investor as well.”
Ask Henk
“How did we explain this for this client last year? Henk knows. Henk is fully booked until April.”
03 / Applications
Six applications of AI for bookkeeping firms, accountants and advisors.
For each application: which systems we connect to, who approves and what it delivers. The figures come from cases; where we don't have a measured figure, we describe what changes. What it delivers for you, we calculate in the AI Quick Scan.

- Delivers: less 'just ask Henk', even in the busy weeks
04 / Rules and compliance
Is AI allowed in a financial organization?
Yes, if you set it up properly. But exactly which requirements apply to you differs per organization, per licence and per application. That's why we don't make statements about what the law requires of you. We agree those requirements per organization with your own compliance officer or lawyer, before we build.
What we do is build it so that this conversation is easy. Decisions about clients, such as advice, acceptance or credit, stay with a human. Every AI step is logged, so you can show what happened and who looked at it. The data stays in the EU, on your own infrastructure or with a European provider, and AI only sees what it needs for a task.
Want to read up? Start with the EU AI Act for SMEs and ChatGPT and the GDPR. Both are explanations in plain language, not legal advice.

06 / By profession
Where does AI start at a bookkeeping firm, accountant or advisor?
Financial services is a broad field, but the pattern is the same everywhere: lots of documents, lots of checks, knowledge in a few heads. What differs per profession is where AI delivers something first. Who decides doesn't change.
| Where AI can start | Who decides | |
|---|---|---|
| Bookkeeping firm | Processing invoices, receipts and statements, requesting missing documents | The bookkeeper or client manager |
| Accountancy firm | Organizing documents, preparing explanatory notes, client files in order | The accountant |
| Financial advisory firm | Document processing and preparing compliance checks | The advisor |
| Mortgage and insurance advice | Completing client files, reports of advisory meetings | The advisor |
| Investment and financing advice | Assessing pitch decks and plans against your own canvas, as at KplusV | The consultant |
| A company's finance department | Accounts payable, accounts receivable and monthly reports | The controller |

08 / The baseline
Where does your organization stand with AI?
In the AI Quick Scan, we measure AI maturity on seven dimensions: strategy, data, technology, people, processes, governance and culture. In financial services, governance carries a lot of weight: who decides, who checks and what gets recorded? Below is an example, not a client figure.

10 / Questions
Frequently asked questions about AI in financial services.
What can AI do in financial services?
AI can extract data from invoices and receipts and prepare them for booking, organize and summarize client documents, run client files against your own checklist, write a first draft of reports and explanatory notes and answer questions from the client file. The advisor or accountant reviews and decides. At a financial advisory firm, this made document processing 40 percent faster.
Can AI help a bookkeeping firm?
Yes, especially with processing invoices, receipts and statements, requesting missing documents and answering recurring client questions. AI reads, matches and prepares in software such as Exact or AFAS; the bookkeeper approves. At one of our clients, invoice processing alone saves 12 hours a week.
Can AI do compliance checks?
AI can prepare compliance checks: running every client file against your own checklist, indicating what's missing or deviates and referring to the document where it's found. The judgement stays with the advisor or compliance officer. At a financial advisory firm, the automated checks reach 95 percent accuracy, with an advisor who reviews.
Which rules apply to AI in the financial sector?
That differs per organization, per licence and per application, and we don't make statements about it. We agree the requirements per organization with your own compliance officer or lawyer, before we build. For a first overview, you can read the EU AI Act for SMEs and ChatGPT and the GDPR. Those are explanations in plain language, not legal advice.
Does AI decide about clients, credit or advice?
No. We leave decisions about clients, such as advice, acceptance or credit, to a human. AI reads, organizes, checks and proposes; the advisor reviews and decides. Every step is logged, so you can show what AI did and who looked at it.
Is it safe with financial client data?
Data stays in the EU, on your own infrastructure or on servers with a European provider; Azure OpenAI is an option. AI only sees what the user is allowed to see, everything is logged and the data agreements are in place before we build. We work to ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 (certification in preparation).
Which systems do you connect to?
To what you already use: accounting and ERP software such as Exact, AFAS, SAP and Microsoft Dynamics, the inbox or client portal, document management and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. We usually build in n8n, with custom work where needed. The condition is API access or an export with the right permissions.
What does AI cost for a bookkeeping or accountancy firm?
You start with the € 6,000 AI Quick Scan. After that, the AI Partnership runs on package S (€ 4,500 per month, 30 hours), M (€ 7,500 per month, 50 hours) or L (€ 12,000 per month, 80 hours), for a minimum of twelve months. We only start if the partnership earns itself back at least twice in the first year. An example from our practice (anonymous): € 77,000 saved against € 28,000 in build costs, earned back in about 4.5 months. All amounts excluding VAT.
